A bipartisan coalition announced on Monday that it will host a candidate forum for Walla Walla City Council. The bipartisan forum will be held on Monday, July 17th at 7pm at Whitman College’s Maxey Auditorium. The event is a collaboration between the Walla Walla County Democratic Party, the Walla Walla Republican Party and Whitman College’s Politics department.
The event is described as a question-and-answer format moderated by respected Walla Walla public servant Jim Dumont. Dumont served as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Walla Walla for 16 years. He announced his retirement this spring in an op-ed for the Union-Bulletin.
Candidates will each make opening statements and then take questions from Dumont regarding local infrastructure, city finances, the economy, and homelessness. Organizers will also collect questions from the public before the start of the event. Some of those questions will be selected to be asked of the candidates before the end of the event.
Organizers have said they have confirmation from Jim Barrow, Position 1 incumbent, and challengers Riley Clubb and Jerrold Phillips. Candidates for Position 2 attending the event include Manuel Almanzar, Devon Wootten and Myron Huie.
The forum has been organized by Everett Maroon, Washington State Democratic Party 16th Legislative District Committeeman, and Skyler Rude, Washington State Republican Party Commiteeman.
